Tiger Woods rejected Ryder Cup captaincy the same time as head of PGA stepped down - Reports

Tiger Woods will not be the next US Ryder Cup captain for 2025. Despite rampant rumors that he might be picked, the selection on Tuesday won't name the legendary golfer as the next leader. He already reportedly turned down the role. In fact, he did it quite some time ago.

In late June, PGA CEO Seth Waugh announced that he would be stepping down at the conclusion of his contract. It was at the same time that Woods declined to take the US Ryder Cup role. He cited his role on the policy board as a reason he didn't want to do anything extra.

Woods was tabbed as the likely next captain since he's been a successful member of the USA team before. Everyone on the team would know, like, and respect him. He is one of the most decorated golfers of all time, so it would be a surprise if he didn't make it into that prestigious role at some point.

The door isn't closed, though. Woods has declined to be the captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup, but there will be more opportunities down the road. It is also very likely that the USA will take him at any point he decides he wants to do it, whether that's three years from now or longer.

Keegan Bradley likely to be Ryder Cup captain, not Tiger Woods

Instead of the popular pick Tiger Woods, Keegan Bradley is expected to be named the next USA captain for the Ryder Cup. The PGA Tour star was glossed over by captain Zach Johnson last year despite falling in the top 12 of Ryder Cup points.

Now, Bradley is, in a move that does not follow the typical protocol, expected to supplant Johnson. The US team was defeated rather handily by the Europeans at Marco Simone in 2023, and Johnson won't get the chance to reprise his role.

It's unclear exactly who the US team members will be, though Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, and Xander Schauffele are highly likely to make it, but the captain is all but confirmed.
