Tiger Woods returns to Augusta ahead of the 2023 Masters
Tiger Woods finally returns to the Augusta field for The Masters. The legendary American golfer landed in Georgia to play the 25th Masters of his career.
Woods arrived at the venue on Sunday at 3 pm with his caddie, Joe LaCava, to begin his preparations for The Masters, which will take place later this week.
Tiger Woods was joined by his friend and executive vice president of Tiger Woods Ventures, Rob McNamara, at the golf course. He played around 45 minutes in the practice area of the tournament.
The Masters will start with its first round on April 6 and will continue till Sunday, April 9. The biggest golf tournament of the year is back with some of the best golfers in the world.
Tiger Woods reached the venue earlier to practice for the tournament. Apparently, he was not the only one polishing his skills ahead of The Masters. Shane Lowry, Sungjae Im, Tyrrell Hatton, and Billy Horschel were also present in the practice area while Woods was around.
Jason Day joined Woods and shared a few laughs before the five-time Masters' winner broke away to chat with the chairman of Augusta National and |The Masters' Tournament, Fred Ridley.
"I sense a repeat of 2019" - Fans react to Tiger Woods' return to The Masters
Masters officials shared a picture of Tiger Woods practicing at Augusta Field on Twitter with a caption saying:
"On a quiet Sunday afternoon, Tiger Woods returned to the place he's won five green jackets."
Fans are excited to see Woods competing in the tournament and wearing the green jacket for the sixth time.
They jumped into the comments section of the post and wrote:
"I sense a repeat of 2019."
"Everytime i hear a Tiger stat it astounds me."
"Masters 2019 was probably the greatest win in recent golf history."
Tiger Woods won the Masters in 2019. He registered a one-stroke victory over Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffle, and Brooks Koepka. It was a neck-to-neck competition in which Woods managed to outshine all the other golfers.
Woods started the first round with a score of 70, but with rounds of 68 and 67, he was able to get back into the game. He shot a final-round 70 once more, but it was enough to secure the title. Johnson, Koepka, and Schauffle tied for second position with a score of under 12.
Interestingly, Johnson and Koepka will play at Augusta alongside Woods this week, but they joined LIV Golf last year and Woods is against the Saudi-backed series.
Since the 2019 Masters, Tiger Woods has been struggling with injuries and finds it hard to play in the competition. He has missed several tournaments in the last few years.
After Tiger Woods was involved in a horrific car accident in 2021, he kept himself away from the golf course. However, he played at The Masters last year and finished in 47th place.
In 2023, he had only played at the Genesis Invitational Open in February. Woods is only committed to playing in major tournaments this year due to his injuries.
