Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy’s golf league gives big update on course design four months ahead of grand launch

The Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy-led TGL League is scheduled to launch in January 2025. This Wednesday, September 18, new details were released about the design of the virtual golf course that will be used.

One of the designers who worked on the virtual golf course, Agustín Pizá, gave an interview to Golf Digest in which he evaluated the work done and gave details about two of the holes (The Plank and The Serpent).

According to Pizá, The Plank will be a 360-yard par-4. It is a hole inspired by the Old Course at St. Andrews:

"It doesn't look at all like the Old Course," Pizá said, "but it plays to a certain extent like the Old Course. You can play that with 3 wedges, you can play with a long iron and a short iron, you can even drive it if you are lucky enough to have that speed in your driver." [2:01 - 2:17]

As for The Serpent, Pizá revealed that it will be a 603-yard par-5. It owes its name to the many sinuosities with which its fairway has been designed. This will force players to choose between two approaches, conservative or aggressive:

"If you go conservative, you'll have the view of the green zone. If you go aggressive, you may lose the view, but you're home in two." [3:21 - 3:29]

The TGL League was scheduled to start in January 2024, but the roof of the center where it will be held collapsed and it had to be postponed for a year. Pictures published on social networks show that the new venue, called the SoFi Center, is in the final stages of construction.

Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Mike McCarley founded TMRW Sports, the company that launched the TGL League in 2022. The company has attracted numerous show business and sports stars as investors, including Steph Curry, Venus and Serena Williams, and Justin Bieber.
