Tom Kim almost loses his place at the 2024 Scottish Open due to his team's grave error
Tom Kim has made it to the field of the 2024 Scottish Open, but not before going through a big setback. The Travelers Championship winner almost missed the tournament this weekend after a mix-up from his team.
Kim recently finished runner-up at the Travelers Championship after an intense playoff against Scottie Scheffler. The Scottish Open will mark his ninth consecutive tournament in a row. However, his team missed the deadline to apply for the field, which meant his chances of playing this weekend were in jeopardy.
Speaking about the incident, Tom Kim detailed via Golf.com:
“Yeah, obviously there was a mix-up on my team’s end. I just with deadlines and stuff with two tours, it sometimes gets confusing. I only found out about it earlier the day before when I got a call from the team saying, ‘Hey, we messed up on our end. We are not trying to do anything weird but we messed up.'”
Due to this mix-up, Tom Kim had to rely on a last minute sponsor's exemption to make the field. He went on to further clarify that it was simply a mistake made by his team, with no motive behind the late entry.
“Obviously I love coming out here. I would never do anything remotely weird to just flirt with the tournaments. It was a complete mistake on the people who help me,” he said.
Tom Kim's continuous playing streak began at the CJ Cup in May, and he has not stopped since.
