"Wasn't really quite comfortable"- Jon Rahm gives his take on 'frustrating' round at the 2024 Spanish Open

Jon Rahm is playing in the 2024 Open de España at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. It is the Spaniard's return to the DP World Tour after signing with LIV Golf in December 2023.

After the first 36 holes, Rahm is tied for third place at -5 under. However, the three-time winner of the Open de España believes his score on day two could have been better.

Here's what Jon Rahm had to say (via ASAP Sports):

"Overall, everything just felt one or two levels below what I would have liked to feel. Wasn't really quite comfortable all day on the course. But there's a couple moments where I still had some good swings, and making that eagle putt was something that kind of renewed the energy in me for the rest of the round."

He added:

"It's a little frustrating after such good work yesterday in the heavy winds to not take advantage of the easier conditions today."

Rahm came into the Open de España fresh from winning the LIV Golf season individual title. In the breakaway league, Rahm had 12 top-10 finishes in 2024, including two victories.

His participation in his homeland's national Open was in doubt until the last moment due to illness. However, Rahm recovered in time to arrive at the venue around 24 hours before his first round tee time.

A look at Jon Rahm's performance in the first two rounds of the Open de España

Jon Rahm opened the 2024 Open de España with five birdies and two bogeys for a 3-under-par first round. That left him tied for 5th place, three shots behind interim leader and compatriot Angel Hidalgo.

A day later, Rahm started with a bogey on the 2nd hole but responded with an eagle on the 4th. The two-time Major champion played the hole with a tee shot that hit the fairway to 280 yards. He then produced a superb 238-yard approach that left the ball on the green, just 10 feet nine inches from the pin. He then holed the putt for a 3.

However, Rahm was unable to capitalize on the momentum as he then bogeyed the 6th and birdied the 7th to finish the front nine at even par.

He didn't fare much better on the back nine. Rahm started with a birdie on the 10th but followed that up with a bogey on the 12th, consecutive birdies on the 14th and 15th, and a bogey on the 18th to finish at 2 under.

Rahm is tied for third place with LIV Golf colleague Patrick Reed, compatriot Alfredo Garcia-Heredia, Julien Guerrier, and Sam Bairstow. They are currently five shots behind Hidalgo, who continues to lead the event.

For the third round, Rahm has a tee time of 6:59 AM (Eastern time). He will be joined by Reed and Bairstow.
