WATCH: Bryson DeChambeau dunks an eagle straight off the post at LIV Golf Andalucia
Bryson DeChambeau is one of the top contenders at the 2024 LIV Golf Andalucia. He improved his position on the leaderboard significantly from the first to the second round, and his spectacular eagle of the day had a lot to do with it.
The hole that DeChambeau eagled was the 370-yard, par-4 14th hole. What was most spectacular, however, was the manner in which he accomplished the feat.
Bryson DeChambeau hit the fairway with his drive. From there, he looked for the green with an iron shot and was fortunate that the ball never touched the grass and went straight into the hole.
DeChambeau made this spectacular play (known in the golf world as a slam dunk hole out) from about 50 yards from the pin. The moment was shared by LIV Golf's X (formerly Twitter) account, and the video clip has been viewed more than 89,000 times.
The 14th hole was the eighth of the round for Bryson DeChambeau. His eagle brought his score to 1 over par. He previously had two birdies and two bogeys.
After his eagle on the 14th, Bryson DeChambeau played bogey-free for the rest of the round. He had two more birdies, one on the 16th and one on the 3rd. His score after 36 holes is 1-under, and he is tied for sixth place.
The tournament's provisional leader is Anirban Lahiri, Bryson DeChambeau's teammate at Crushers GC. Lahiri is 7 under and four shots clear of his nearest challengers.
Bryson DeChambeau on his slam dunk hole out: "It's golf"
At the end of his performance in the second round of the LIV Golf Andalucia, Bryson DeChambeau answered questions from the press. Talking about his eagle on the 14th hole, he said it was the first time he had ever made a slam dunk hole out.
This was part of what DeChambeau had to say (via TenGolf):
"Slam dunk! I've never slam-dunked it, that was the cool part, that's what I was appreciative of. I mean, it's golf, you're going to have weird stuff happening to you, there are plenty of players that have 40 hole in ones, and there are players that have one hole in one, like myself, right? It's a crazy game, and you got to just look at it, and laugh, and love it." [3:37 - 3:55]
During his press conference, DeChambeau also had words of praise for the Real Club Valderrama course. The 2024 US Open champion called it a "championship-style golf course."
DeChambeau finished runner-up in the inaugural LIV Golf Andalucia (2023), which was also played at Real Club Valderrama. A year ago, DeChambeau finished 11-under par, one stroke behind winner Talor Gooch.
DeChambeau has yet to win a LIV Golf event in the 2024 season. However, he has five top-10 finishes in nine tournaments.
