WATCH: Bryson DeChambeau hits impressive 280 yard drive in YouTube video
American professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau had a very successful season this year. Apart from doing well on the LIV Golf tour, DeChambeau won the 2024 US Open. Now he once again finds himself in the headlines for the right reasons.
DeChambeau made an appearance on the YouTube channel Grant Horvat Golf. During his appearance, he hit a 280-yard drive with a putter at the Maridoe Golf Club, which hosts LIV Golf Dallas.
You can check out footage of Bryson DeChambeau hitting a 280-yard drive with a putter below:
The reason this drive is impressive is that a putter is designed so that a golfer can hit short and controlled shots on the green to putt the ball into the hole. Ideally, a driver would be used for the kind of shot DeChambeau hit.
This clip of Bryson DeChambeau's 280-yard drive with a putter has gone viral on social media. Earlier this year, the golfer crossed one million subscribers on YouTube, for which he received a Golden Play Button.
Bryson DeChambeau will team up with fellow LIV Golf professional to face PGA Tour stars
Since last year, there have been talks about a potential merger between the PGA Tour and PIF, which backs LIV Golf. In June 2023, both parties agreed to a framework agreement, but since then, they have failed to finalize the terms within the set deadline.
However, amid these talks, golfers from both tours are set to face each other. In what will be similar to The Match, Bryson DeChambeau will team up with Brooks Koepka to face PGA Tour's Rory McIlroy and World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler on December 17th in Las Vegas.
This match between the LIV Golf professionals and PGA Tour professionals will take place at the Shadow Creek Golf Course. Over the years, the Shadow Creek Golf Course has hosted several important tournaments, and it also hosted The Match in 2018, which was played between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
Ahead of LIV Golf Chicago, Bryson DeCheambeau shared his thoughts about this clash. While the details for the event, such as the venue, were not out at that time, DeChambeau said that the upcoming match-up is a great opportunity.
"We want to bring this game back to a place where I would say everyone has the opportunity to see the greatest play a lot more than four times a year. I think it's a great opportunity to showcase how we evolve that over the course of time. The details are not very fully fleshed out yet."
"We always wanted to have a PGA Tour and LIV sort of battle a couple years ago. We always thought that would be pretty cool and whatnot. But I think it's going to develop over the course of time and hopefully give the people what they want," Bryson DeChambeau said.
While there is no update about a potential merger between the PGA Tour and PIF yet, the match in December is probably the closest they will get until and unless this happens. However, it's also important that in 2024, there was another moment in which the PGA Tour and PIF came together.
At the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, PGA Tour chief Jay Monohan and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan were paired together at Carnoustie.
