WATCH: Charley Hull holes birdie after anticipation at the Annika LPGA Tournament
Charley Hull could only watch as her putt rolled towards the pin. Angling for another birdie on the day, Hull was looking to drop her overall score by another stroke. She was successful in that endeavor, though not without a bit of prodding from the golfer.
After she sent her putt toward the cup, it began to curve in the correct direction. Seemingly in an effort to magically guide the ball, she bent backwards in anticipation that the ball would follow that same path.
It did, landing for her third birdie of the opening round of the Annika LPGA tournament. Overall, at the time of writing, Hull is four under par and tied for first. Watch her impressive putt here:
Hull recently returned to play after several weeks off from LPGA Tour events at the Maybank Championship. She shot 12 under and tied for 12th in that event. The English golfer is on her way to a better outing in the Annika after a brilliant start to the opening round.
Charley Hull reflects on first win in two years
Charley Hull is a prominent golfer on the LPGA Tour, but she has achieved and maintained this status largely without winning events. It had been 25 months since her last win before she broke through at the Aramco Team Series - Riyadh.
She said via Golf Monthly:
"I feel like my game has been pretty good all season. I've been knocking on the door quite a lot the past few years and, this week, it all came together. I feel good."
Hull has recently put together a nice run of form, as she dominated Nelly Korda in the Solheim Cup, won the Aramco Team Series, placed 12th at the Maybank, and is on her way to another exceptional finish at the Annika.
It all, especially the win in Riyadh, had Charley Hull excited. She said of her performance then via Golf.com:
“I felt really sharp, I played very solidly today. I was actually in the gym this morning, and didn’t start my warm-up until 45 minutes before because I needed to get a 5K-run in. I felt really strong out there.”
It was her fourth LET title, and it had her looking forward to the forthcoming events:
“I’m going home for a week before I head back to America for the last two events on the LPGA Tour, which is The Annika event, and then the CME Group Tour Championship. I like the Tour Championship golf course. I won there in 2016, so I’m looking forward to them, too, and then home for Christmas — I can’t wait.”
That excitement has seemingly translated to high-quality play at the Annika, where just yesterday, Caitlin Clark made headlines for her outing in the pro-am.
