WATCH: Collin Morikawa shows how he shoots 50 yards with a wedge
Technique plays a huge role in a sport like golf, where the smallest of angles or power can make a huge difference. Recently, US golfer Collin Morikawa got together with golfing equipment company TaylorMade to demonstrate how to hit a perfect 50 yards with a wedge.
Morikawa began by explaining how the resting position of the ball can determine a golfer's approach to a hit. He also explained the angle he aimed to keep when going for the shot.
"First thing you want to look at is the lie. I have got a good lie ball sitting up. But if you notice and if you can tell, it's slightly uphill. So with wind into me, front pin that's going to be great. You want loft to a front pin. You want to be able to spin it. So I am going to keep my 60 degrees."
Collin Morikawa further explained how amateur golfers play such shots and why their approach could be flawed.
"I always see amateurs from this distance take way too big of a swing. They think they need to take a practice swing. That's a full swing but in reality it is a very short shot. So if you think of a 50-yard shot almost as a big pitch shot but with a little bit more followthrough, that's kind of what you want to do."
Morikawa then went ahead and hit two shots that landed inches away from the hole. He added:
"Just like that. About hip to the shoulder."
Certainly, the US golfer produced a masterclass of hitting a 50-yard with a wedge with his video for TaylorMade.
