WATCH: Hayden Springer sinks a 12-foot putt for a 59 at John Deere Classic

Hayden Springer kicked off the 2024 John Deere Classic with an amazing round of 12-under 59. He shot an incredible 12-foot birdie on the final hole of the first round, finishing with a score of 59. This gave him a remarkable two-stroke lead as he prepared to enter the second round on Friday, July 5.

Springer shot an eight-under 27 on the front nine on Thursday, July 4, recording the lowest nine-hole on the PGA Tour since 2000. His overall score of 59 in the first round is the second-lowest on the PGA Tour, with the lowest being a 58, carded by Jim Furyk at the 2016 Travelers Championship.

Springer joins renowned PGA Tour players such as Cameron Young, Kevin Chappell, Scottie Scheffler, Brandt Snedeker, Adam Hadwin, Justin Thomas, Stuart Appleby, Paul Goydos, Chip Beck, Al Geiberger, and David Duval, who have all shot a round of 59. It's the second time a player has scored 59 on the PGA Tour in 2024. Last month, Cameron Young scored 59 at the 2024 Travelers Championship.

Hayden Springer has now become the 14th player on the PGA Tour to break the 60-barrier. Moreover, it's the second time a player has scored 59 at the John Deere Classic. Previously, Paul Goydos shot such a low round in 2010 but finished runner-up in the tournament.

Springer started his game at the 2024 John Deere Classic with an eagle on the second hole, followed by four back-to-back birdies. He carded two more birdies on the eighth and ninth holes.

On the back nine, Springer shot a birdie on the 15th, followed by another eagle on the 17th hole. He concluded the game with a birdie on the 18th. The 27-year-old golfer scored 12-under to take the lead at the end of the first round. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, July 7.

After struggling with his game throughout the season, Hayden Springer finally started with a splendid round at the 2024 John Deere Classic. He played in 14 tournaments this season but missed the cut in eight. He missed the cut in six of his last seven starts but finished T10 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week.

Hayden Springer was at a loss for words after shooting 59 at the 2024 John Deere Classic. Speaking about his game, Springer said (via NBC Sports):

"I’m feeling good. Kind of, I don’t know, at loss for words in terms of being able to do that. I feel like that’s one the rare things in golf, so to kind of have that opportunity and pull it off, it feels pretty special.”

Sami Valimaki settled in second place after the first round of the 2024 John Deere Classic, followed by Eric Cole. Davis Thompson tied for fourth place with Harry Hall, Chan Kim, and Luke Clanton.
