WATCH: John Daly shows off his football skills ahead of the NFL season

The NFL is set to kick off this weekend, and star golfer John Daly might be able to step in if a team needs him. A video has surfaced of him nailing a field goal while barefoot in the grass. Kicking is difficult enough, but most players do it with shoes on.

The PGA Tour Champions, which is the tour he plays on and has since 2016, shared the video to celebrate the official first day of the football season since the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs kick off tonight for the first regular season game.

Ironically, Daly used his shoe as a holder for the ball. Either way, it worked perfectly for him as he booted the ball cleanly through the uprights for what would be either three or one point in the NFL.

Kicker is one of the more volatile positions in the NFL, as there is so much turnover every year at the spot. It's hard for teams to find and keep reliable kickers, and it also seems to be a position where players can suddenly struggle tremendously.

Daly seems to have a knack for it, though he's well past the standard retirement age for NFL players - even kickers, who last a little longer due to the lack of hits and overall lack of risk they take.

John Daly supports NIL in college football, other sports

NIL has completely changed the sporting landscape in college, but it has had a pronounced effect on football. John Daly has noticed this as a fan, and he's on board. That said, he doesn't believe it to be a perfect system.

He said he wasn't a big fan of the NCAA on the Paul Finebaum Show, adding via On3:

“If you look back and you think of all these great athletes that come through there, you know your Bo Jackson’s … why aren’t they getting money for those jerseys sold. Why is the NCAA getting it and a few other people getting it? I believe in NIL, but I think what they need to do, what I would preach to a team is let’s say quarterbacks get $3 million, the offensive linemen (are) getting free barbecue."

Daly says that the teams should take their NIL money, add it all together, and split it evenly amongst the players. This way, no one makes more than anyone else. The idea behind NIL, however, is to profit off one's name or image, and not everyone is the same in that regard.

John Daly believes the sport is expanding rapidly and changing significantly. He's not opposed to some of the changes, but he is acknowledging that it's not the sport he grew up with.
