WATCH: Justin Rose gets supported by a fan in the Open from the most bizarreĀ location

Justin Rose is one of the leading contenders for the 2024 Open Championship title. The Englishman began the final round one shot behind leader Billy Horschel and is receiving massive support from his fellow countrymen.

One of Justin Rose's most devoted fans was reported from Royal Troon on Sunday as he chose to show his support from the waters of the Irish Sea. The fan was spotted swimming next to the course and holding a sign that read "Good Luck, Justin Rose."

The fan's presence in the waters near Royal Troon has quickly gone viral. Several videos showing him with his sign have been posted all over social media and have received tens of thousands of views.

Rose is trying to become the first Englishman to win the Open Championship since 1992. That edition was won by Nick Faldo on 12 under, one stroke ahead of John Cook.

Since then, none of his compatriots have been able to lift the Claret Jug. Since 1992, six English players have finished runner-up: Faldo himself in 1993, Darren Clarke in 1997, Ian Poulter in 2008, Lee Westwood in 2010, Justin Rose in 2018 and Tommy Fleetwood in 2019.

Rose is playing in the final round of the Open Championship in the second to last group. Rose has been paired with Xander Schauffele, who leads the event at 7-under.

A look at Justin Rose's performance in the 2024 Open Championship

Justin Rose has been among the leaders from the start of the 2024 Open Championship, although he has not been in the lead in any of the first three rounds. The Englishman played the first round bogey-free with two birdies for a score of 2-under.

The second round was also very good for Rose, as he had four birdies and one bogey (3 under). On the so-called "moving day", Rose had to deal with bad weather and had one birdie and three bogeys (2 over).

Rose started the fourth round with three birdies on the front nine to keep him in contention. On the back nine, he parred the 10th and 11th and bogeyed the 12th. He then made three consecutive pars.

His score for the event is 5 under through 16. He sits third on the leaderboard with three holes to play, three shots behind leader Xander Schauffele.

Rose has played in 20 editions of The Open Championship, with 14 cuts made. He has three top-10 finishes and his best finish of second place came in 2018, when he finished two strokes behind Francesco Molinari.

His record in major championships includes 80 starts, with 55 cuts made. He has 21 top-10 finishes, and his best result is winning the 2013 US Open.
