WATCH: Ludvig Aberg’s caddie couldn't contain his reaction to the rookie's stunning 7-wood shot
After a top-ten finish at the Memorial Tournament, Ludvig Aberg continues to display his antics at the Pinehurst course. The most striking was Aberg’s incredible swing in round three of the US Open. The 7-wood, 9-foot shot left his caddie, Joe Skovron, flabbergasted.
Capturing Skovron's hilarious reaction, the official page of the US Open posted a video clipping via X.com. The clipping showed Aberg firing for a birdie on hole 10, which traveled down a projectile to land just before the hole.
Witnessing such an incredible sight, the bagman couldn't hold himself back from sharing a startled reaction. Commenting on his reaction, the poster wrote, "Are you kidding?! 7 wood to 9 feet for eagle? Åberg's caddie's reaction says it all!"
Finally, the 10th hole ended with a birdie, constituting a total of three birdies in the entire round. Apart from birdies, the third round saw three bogeys and one double bogey on hole 13. The round finished at 3-over 73, putting Ludvig Aberg in fifth place after Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, and Patrick Cantlay.
Ludvig Aberg is five shots behind leader Bryson DeChambeau, and on Sunday has the shot to redeem himself. Given Aberg’s spectacular form throughout the US Open, it will be interesting to watch him play in the final showdown.
Ludvig Aberg's performance in rounds one and two of the 2024 US Open
Ludvig Aberg's form didn't falter on the tricky Pinehurst course. The 24-year-old Swedish golfer bagged six birdies in his opening round to finish at 66. But his marvels didn't stop there.
He navigated through the tough course to clinch three birdies in round two. As a result, Aberg sat atop the leaderboard after round two with a 5-under. But the feat didn't come off as easy. In an interview with Golf Digest, Aberg reflected on his experience at Pinehurst:
"I think obviously, this being my first one, I think a U.S. Open is supposed to be hard. It's supposed to be tricky, and it's supposed to challenge any aspect of your game...But super fortunate with the way that things have turned out over the last couple days, and hopefully we'll be able to keep it up," said Aberg
Before the US Open, the Swedish native displayed astounding gameplay in other tournaments as well. He has a total of six top-ten finishes as of now in the 2024 season. The list also includes the Masters Tournament, where Aberg finished at T2 with 73-69-70-69. Other noteworthy performances were at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Players Championship, which witnessed T2 and T8 finishes, respectively.
Added to that, in 2023, Aberg also clinched two victories in his rookie year as a professional golfer. Hence, it's relevant that the young player's excellent records raise expectations for a major triumph in 2024. Ludvig Aberg is going to tee off on Sunday for the final round. He's paired with Hideki Matsuyama and his tee time is 1:59 p.m.
