Watch: Max Homa golf breaks club in anger at 2023 WM Phoenix Open
Max Homa started the final day way back behind leader Scottie Scheffler but still had the perfect opportunity to improve his ranking. He was looking forward to clinching the second trophy of the year on Sunday, February 12, but things slipped from his hands in the final round.
Homa was at a one-score deficit of one on the day with a total of under five in the tournament. He hit his drive on the par-4 sixth hole but his shot hit the sand and the ball only traveled 100 yards, leaving him to cover 80 yards to make it to the hole.
The unfortunate shot disappointed the golfer and broke his club in anger. The pro golf staffer tweeted a video with a caption saying:
"Max Homa is one of us."
Fans jumped into the comment section to write:
"Love this - TV rarely shows the bad shots that so often occur even with best golfers in the world. Makes amateurs realize that these guys hit bad shots frequently (although rarely compound a bad one with a bad one)"
"I like him even more now. I love it when these guys show a little… or a lot of emotion."
"Only thing is when we do it we don’t get fined."
Max Homa slipped down 14 positions after the final round to finish at T39 in a three-way tie alongside Sahith Theegala and Lucas Glover.
