WATCH: Michael Block makes a hole-in-one while shooting a commercial, garners hilarious reaction from Wayne Gretzky
After making a hole-in-one last year, Michael Block made another one recently. This time, hockey legend Wayne Gretzky witnessed it and had a hilarious reaction.
Michael Block, a club professional from California, burst onto the scene at last year's PGA Championship at Oak Hill. He tied for 15th in the tournament, registering the best finish by a PGA professional since 1986. He also made an ace on the 15th hole in the final round, which was one of the highlights of that week.
On Wednesday, July 17, NUCLR Golf, a popular golf-related account on X, shared a clip of Michael Block hitting an ace. He was accompanied by Wayne Gretzky, arguably the greatest hockey player in history. Both were present to shoot a commercial for the Michelob ULTRA Hole Challenge presented by Michelob ULTRA.
As soon as the ball gets inside the hole, Gretzky gets excited and says,
"A free car! He won a car!"
Here's the clip:
Is Michael Block playing in the Open Championship 2024?
Michael Block is not competing at the Open Championship 2024, which starts on Thursday, July 18, at the Royal Troon in Scotland. The season's final Major will feature 158 players in action, but Block isn't one of them.
Block was last seen at the Charles Schwab Challenge last month, where he failed to make the cut for the fourth straight event this season. He carded 72 and 74 at the event, aggregating at 6-over after 36 holes.
For the uninitiated, the 48-year-old golfer has yet to make a cut on the PGA Tour this season. In fact, he hasn't made it to the weekend in any event on the Tour since his T15 finish at Oak Hill. He played at the PGA Championship last month, but the results were nothing like the 2023 event. He shot 76 and 73, bowing out of the tournament after aggregating at 7-over.
In between, Block also played the ISPS HANDA Australian Open, where he tied for 27th. This was the only time, other than the PGA Championship 2023, where he made the cut.
Earlier this year, Block also signed an apparel deal with Good Good Golf, which is owned by Garrett Clark, Matt Scharff, Micah "Tig" Morris, and Stephen Castaneda. Last month, he teamed up with his son Dylan to win the Good Good Golf Midwest Open.
