WATCH: Payne Stewart’s son Aaron delivers a powerful message for Father’s Day 25 years after his dad’s triumph at Pinehurst

The late Payne Stewart is considered to be one of the best golfers in the sport's history. While he had many iconic wins over the course of his career, one of Stewart's best wins came at the 1999 US Open, which was held at one of the toughest golf courses, Pinehurst No. 2.

25 years after Payne's win, his son Aaron Stewart delivered a powerful message on Father's Day. In a video uploaded on the X handle of the US Open, Aaron first spoke about what Father's Day means to him. He said that growing up, it was a sad day since it was just a day of remembrance of his father.

For those unaware, Payne Stewart passed away in 1999 when Aaron was 10 years old. In the video, Aaron introduced himself and said he is the son of Payne Stewart. He spoke about how fans of golf remembered his father compared to how he remembers him. Stewart said:

"For me, for my sister, for my mom, we remember him as a larger than life family man. There are certain people we all have in our lives that just make you feel better when you are around them and he was certainly one of those people. He could brighten up a room just by walking into it."

Further, Aaron Stewart explained how much it meant for Payne Stewart to play at the U.S. Open. He further said that Father's Day was hard, but it now has a different feel for him since Aaron is himself a father and is now celebrated by his kids. The video concluded with a message from Aaron to his father, Payne. He said:

"We miss you, we are proud of you, we hope that we made you proud."

Payne Stewart tragically died in a plane crash on October 25, 1999, when traveling for a tournament. However, even today, fans remember him due to his iconic performances on the course.
