WATCH: Rickie Fowler tees it off at Tiger Woods-organized Nexus Cup
Rickie Fowler is at the Nexus Cup, an amateur team event organized by Tiger Woods, having a good time. He was captured taking some swings ahead of the competition, and he sent one almost into orbit with Woods watching.
The slow-motion video showcases Fowler's picturesque swing and the clean strike he landed on the ball. His perfect footwork and backswing were on display as well. Check it out below:
Woods has organized this event to give amateur golfers the chance to compete against one another. The legendary golfer allows them to compete in team-based events, which is a rarity in golf.
Fowler is not officially involved and since he's a professional and has been for a very long time, he's not part of the clinic itself. He seemingly popped by to take some swings and talk with his friend Woods, and the above swing was the result.
The website for the event led by the 82-time PGA Tour winner says:
"The Nexus Cup is an amateur team match play event unlike any other. Special guest appearances are incorporated into the experience at Liberty National creating a unique opportunity to play with the world’s best while overlooking the iconic Manhattan Skyline."
Everyone gets the chance to meet and talk with Woods, which may be more of a draw for young golfers than the competition itself. Of course, there are exclusive and unique prizes available for those who compete and win the team events on the schedule.
When will Tiger Woods play next?
While Tiger Woods has already begun working as a sort of ambassador for the future of golf with events like the Nexus Cup, he is still an active player. Beyond that, he's still a member of the PGA Tour and not the Tour Champions for retired veterans.
However, it has been a while since he played. The 15-time Major winner was last spotted in the Open Championship, where he missed the cut after two struggle-filled rounds.
He returned from 2023 ankle surgery to play in five events this year, missing the cut in three and withdrawing early from a fourth. He is expected to play again at the Hero World Challenge and PNC Championship in 2024.
After that, it's up in the air. The Tour did implement an exemption for Tiger Woods to play in Signature Events, of which there are plenty next season. He has also expressed a desire to continue competing in Majors, but he has no firm commitments to 2025 events other than an automatic qualification into the Masters, PGA Championship, and British Open.
