WATCH: Rory McIlroy greets $100,000,000 tennis legend at the 2024 BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am
Rory McIlroy is set to compete at the BMW PGA Championship, which will tee off on Thursday, September 19, at Wentworth Club in Surrey, England. However, ahead of that, he will be playing in the Pro-Am on Wednesday, September 18.
The BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am will feature several celebrities from various fields in action. One of them is recently retired tennis superstar Andy Murray, who is set to make his golf debut this week.
On Wednesday, the DP World Tour shared a video of Murray greeting Rory McIlroy ahead of the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am. In the clip, the Northern Irishman is seen approaching the three-time Grand Slam champion. Murray tells Rory that he has been playing a lot of golf post-retirement and then praises the golfer for his season.
"Great job this year. It's been tough but you've done super well," Murray tells the four-time golf Major champion.
For the uninitiated Andy Murray called it quits from tennis last month after crashing out of the Paris Olympics men’s doubles event. In his almost two-decade-long career as a professional, he won 46 titles on the ATP tour.
Murray has won three Majors in his career, and in 2012, he became the first British player in 76 years to win a Grand Slam. He also won gold medals in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, respectively. He is the only tennis player among the 'Big 4' to win two gold medals in the Olympics men's singles event. Besides, the 37-year-old currently has a net worth of over $100 million (as per celebritynetworth.com).
Murray is paired with Jimmy Anderson and Anton du Beke for the Pro-Am, while Robert MacIntyre will be a professional golfer playing alongside the trio. Rory McIlroy will play alongside Gareth Bale, Stuart Broad, and Freddie Gerstrom. Both groups will tee off at 8 am local time at a shotgun start.
Tom Holland meets Rory McIlroy ahead of the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am
Hollywood star Tom Holland met Rory McIlroy ahead of the BMW PGA Championship at the Wentworth hitting range. The Spider Man fame star introduced himself to the golfer, and they exchanged pleasantries before hitting a few shots together on the range. Here's the clip:
Holland has his brothers Harry Holland and Sam Holland in his group, alongside professional Tommy Fleetwood. The group will also start in the morning session at 8:00 am local time with a shotgun start. This is Holland's third appearance at the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am.
