WATCH: Sahith Theegala smashes his own record, nails 394 yard drive at 2024 3M Open

Sahith Theegala is playing in the 3M Open at the TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota. He got off to a solid start in the event, including setting a personal record.

Theegala hit a 394-yard drive on the sixth hole at the TPC Twin Cities, shattering his own personal record on the hole. His previous longest drive there was 321 yards during the first round of the 2020 edition.

Hole six is 581 yards and a par 5 with a dogleg to the right of the fairway. Sahith Theegala's drive cleared the dogleg, sending his ball 394 yards into the left rough and leaving it 180 yards from the pin.

From there, Sahith Theegala reached the green with his second shot and had a 45-foot, eight-inch putt for eagle. He missed it and achieved his fifth birdie of the day.

Sahith Theegala ranks 57th on the PGA Tour in average driving distance for the 2024 season (302.7 yards), but he has the sixth-longest drive on the circuit, a 452-yard drive in the third round at The Sentry.

In the first round of the 3M Open, his driving followed the trend of the season, averaging 303 yards. His 394-yards drive is the longest of the tournament so far.

A look into Sahith Theegala's performance at the 3M Open and more

Sahith Theegala kicked off his performance on the 10th hole of the TPC Twin Cities. He birdied the first hole and then parred the next five to finish the first nine in birdie - par - birdie.

His performance on the second nine was no less impressive, as he went bogey-free on the fifth and sixth (14th and 15th of the round). His 18-hole score was 5-under 66, and he is tied for fifth place with one round to play.

Temporary leader of the tournament is PGA Tour rookie Jacob Bridgeman, who played his first round with nine birdies and one bogey (8-under).

The 3M Open is Theegala's 21st tournament of the 2024 season. In his previous 20 starts, he has six top-10 finishes, including two runner-up finishes (The Sentry and RBC Heritage).

Theegala played in all four Majors this season. His best finish has been a T12 at the PGA Championship. He also finished T32 at the US Open, T45 at the Masters Tournament and made the cut at the Open Championship.

He is currently ranked 11th in the Official World Golf Ranking and seventh in the FedEx Cup. This ranking qualifies Theegala for all three playoff tournaments. A top-50 finish in the FedEx Cup will qualify him for all 2025 Signature Events.

Sahith Theegala's PGA Tour career includes 96 tournaments and 74 cuts. He has 19 top-10 finishes and his best result has been winning the 2023 Fortinet Championship.
