WATCH: Sam Burns almost holes a rescue shot from the rocks at 3M Open
Sam Burns stunned fans with a marvelous shot during the opening round of the 2024 3M Open. The American golfer teed off at the ongoing PGA Tour event, which started on Thursday, July 25.
During the first round, Burns' tee shot abruptly landed between rocks on the 18th hole. It was a difficult shot for the 28-year-old golfer, but he amazed everyone by hitting the ball close to the hole.
Even Burns was surprised by his game. He took the shot while standing on a rock near a pond, clearly from an uncomfortable position, yet he still made the best of it.

Notably, Sam Burns is one of the top favorites to win the event this week. He shot a 1-under 70 in the first round, settling in a tie for 61st position.
Burns started his game on the first tee with a birdie on the first hole. He then added a bogey on the second, followed by another birdie on the sixth. Burns added a double bogey on the seventh.
Although the double bogey impacted his score, the five-time PGA Tour winner managed to bounce back on the back nine. He shot two birdies on the back nine to score 1-under-70.
Meanwhile, Jacob Bridgeman topped the leaderboard after the inaugural round, firing an 8-under 63 to hold a one-stroke lead over Mackenzie Hughes.

According to CBS Sports, Sam Burns' odds to win the 2024 3M Open are +1800, making him one of the top favorites for the week. Burns has competed in 17 tournaments this season, recording six top-10 finishes and missing only three cuts. He last played at the Open Championship, where he tied for 31st place, shooting rounds of 76, 69, 65, and 80. Shortly after the Major, he teed off at the 3M Open.
This week's event field features some big names, including Tony Finau, Sahith Theegala, and Akshay Bhatia. Billy Horschel was also scheduled to compete but withdrew from the competition ahead of the first round.
