WATCH: Tiger Woods brushes his famous one-hand putt drill ahead of The Open Championship at Royal Troon

Tiger Woods was recently spotted practicing with one hand at the 2024 Open Championship. The American golfer will compete at Royal Troon for the first time since 2004, and thus, he is sharpening his game before officially teeing off at the Major.

The tournament will start on Thursday, July 18, and ahead of it, Woods practiced at the prestigious Royal Troon. On Wednesday, July 17, he was seen playing his famous one-hand drill.

A video of his practice session was uploaded by The Open officials on their X account.

Tiger Woods is confident to win again. During a press conference ahead of the Major, he said (via Sportstar):

"I’ll play as long as I can play and I feel like I can still win the event."

Woods has played at this venue before and has had a good experience. He competed in The Open Championship at Royal Troon in 1997, tying for 24th place. Later, he played there in 2004, finishing in T9.

The tournament was last held at Royal Troon in 2016, but the American golfer missed it. Woods shared his experiences of playing at the venue during the press conference, saying (via Sportstar):

“I’ve always loved playing here. I’ve only played here twice. I played in ‘97 and in ‘04. I loved them both. I got a chance to play with Tom Weiskopf in his last practice round."
"That was neat for him to take me back to some of his holes and how he played them, and I obviously gave him some stick, and he’s giving me stick, like we always do. We had a wonderful time playing just a wonderful practice round," he added.

Notably, Woods has won The Open Championship three times in his career and is preparing to win another Claret Jug.

Tiger Woods opts for rusty wedges in preparation for the Open

Tiger Woods is leaving no room for regret and has implemented numerous changes for this week's Major. On Monday, July 15, he was spotted playing with rusty wedges at Royal Troon.

The American golfer opted to use his famous TaylorMade MG4 wedges. However, these golf clubs have a raw steel coating, unlike the usual chrome plating found on most golf equipment. He made a simple change to his bag and practiced with a TaylorMade MG4 Raw 56° sand wedge and a 60° lob wedge.

It is important to note that most golf clubs have a chrome coating to prevent rusting. However, raw steel equipment, which rusts more easily, is preferred by some players because it offers advantages in wet weather by improving the swing. Additionally, these rusty wedges do not reflect much light under bright sunlight.

Fans are highly excited to watch Tiger Woods play in the Major. He will tee off for the first two rounds in a group with Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay. The trio will tee off for the first round on Thursday at 9:37 a.m. ET and on Friday at 4:25 a.m. ET. The Major has a cutline after 36 holes, and only the players making the cut will play over the weekend.
