WATCH: Tiger Woods shows off going from the sidewalk to the green
Tiger Woods made his return from back surgery this weekend at the PNC Championship. He and his son Charlie have been in top form, as they're currently tied for the lead at 20-under with Team Langer.
Part of the reason Woods and his son are playing so well is an array of excellent shots. One such excellent shot came out of the most improbable circumstances. The Woods team's approach shot went awry, and the ball landed just off the sidewalk, far away from the fairway.
The 82-time PGA Tour winner calmly stepped up and undid any of the damage from that first stroke. He perfectly sent the ball into the air and got them on the green to the shock of the announcers.
One announcer said:
"Tiger Woods and his 15-year-old son Charlie in big trouble at the first. Both missed the fairway, but Tiger coming out of the trees 148 yards manages to get them on the green in regulation!"
Following a putt by Charlie, the elder Woods had an easy putt to make sure they didn't lose any strokes on the hole. Considering it began with a tee shot almost out of play, Woods turned a minor miracle at the PNC Championship.
Charlie Woods also made an ace during the competition, his first ever, which has helped the team lower its score to -20 through seven holes on Sunday. They are seven-under on the day and also had five birdies in the back nine in round 1.
Tiger Woods discusses return to golf with son Charlie
Tiger Woods noted that he specifically scheduled his recent back surgery so he'd have enough time to recover and play the PNC Championship with his son Charlie. He missed the Hero World Challenge, of which he is the host, but is active at the PNC.
He said via CNN:
“To be our here in this environment and to have fun like this – it doesn’t get any better. This week is for each other, and we’re just rooting so hard for each of us to pull off each shot that we want."
Woods also acknowledged that he doesn't expect to stay at this level of play for long periods of time. He said he's "had a lot of procedures over the course of time," and that he won't be able to do what he used to.
He continued:
"I’m not going to feel what I used to feel. And the recovery is going to be on the harder side. I can go for a day here or there, but over the course of rounds, weeks, months, it just gets harder.”
For the time being, as evidenced by the Woods duo's performance and the shot above, the golfer is momentarily in good shape.
