Wayne Riley comes in support of Rory McIlroy and his caddie
A few days ago, Wayne Riley extended his support to Rory McIlroy amid the criticism of the golfer and his caddie, Harry Diamond.
"I mean, honestly, who are these guys to criticise Rory McIlroy? Get a life," Riley said as per Mirror Sport. "You think Rory McIlroy doesn't know what a good caddie is? One of his best mates is on the bag and they have won all sorts of championships."
"Where were they all a couple of years ago when he was going up the last hole of 'The Green Mile' at Quail Hollow when Harry said 'Just play it out there'? Great bit of caddying, we heard it all. Where were critics then? They didn't say anything."
Wayne Riley added that Diamond came under scrutiny just because McIlroy had failed to win the US Open. He said it's not Diamond's job to putt for the Northern Irishman.
"Rory is going to pull whatever club he wants; Rory controls his own destiny. That's what makes him great," he concluded.
However, a few days after Riley's comments, McIlroy made an early exit from the Open Championship after missing the cut. it was his first missed cut at the majors since last year's Masters Tournament.
