“Water under the bridge!” – Adam Hadwin poses with security guard who tackled him at last year’s RBC Canadian Open

Last year at the RBC Canadian Open, Adam Hadwin found himself in a little embarrassing situation when the security guard tackled him after mistaking him for an intruder. One year later, Hadwin posed with him and shared the picture on social media.

Hadwin is in Hamilton Golf and Country Club this week for the RBC Canadian Open. He carded a 2-over 72 in the opening round, comprising three birdies and five bogeys.

On May 31, ahead of the second round, he met the security guard, who had pushed him down at Oakdale, when he was running towards Nick Taylor to celebrate as the latter became the first Canadian to win the local event in 69 years. He took a picture with him while holding his identity card and tweeted:

"Water under the bridge," he wrote in caption while quoting Bob Weeks of TSN.

Last year, Taylor made a putt on the 72nd hole in the fourth playoff at the Oakdale Country Club to become the first player since Pat Fletcher in 1954 to win the RBC Canadian Open. He also became the first Canadian-born player since 1914 to achieve this feat.

After Taylor's winning putt, Adam Hadwin ran towards him while holding a champagne bottle and popping it in celebration. Mistaking him for a fan, the security personnel sprinted towards him and tackled him with full force.

Following the incident, numerous hilarious memes were created on social media. Even his wife, Jessica, known for her sense of humor on X, made several jokes about the incident.

"It was a soft takedown" - Security guard recalls tackling down Adam Hadwin at the RBC Canadian Open 2023

Recently, the security guard who stopped Adam Hadwin at last year's RBC Canadian Open had an interview with Bob Weeks of TSN. During the conversation, he reflected on the situation that grabbed headlines at Oakdale last year.

"It was a soft takedown," he said as per TSN. "His (Hadwin) feet never left the ground."

Recalling the incident, he said that he was on the other side of Taylor and his caddie, which meant he had to come around. As many people were moving, he noticed one person heading in the direction of Taylor.

"I saw it as if it was in slow motion, this guy coming towards Nick with a bottle and no credentials," he continued.

The scenes after this were well caught on camera, showing how the guard acted swiftly and took Adam Hadwin down.
