"We would dominate them so soundly"- Phil Mickelson gets into heated exchange on Twitter over LIV vs PGA
Phil Mickelson got into a heated exchange with several Twitter users after finishing his first round at the PIF Saudi International. This happened when the Twitter handle 'Flushing It' tweeted that if there was a LIV vs PGA Tour event ever, it would be the most watched event in the history of the game.
"If there was a LIV v PGA Tour team event right now in a Ryder Cup format with Phil and Tiger as captains, it would be the most watched golf event in history."
"And get Netflix to film EVERYTHING," the user added.
Former American football follow-back, Danny Woodhead, retweeted the tweet in agreement with the user. Woodhead has been an amateur golfer since he retired from football.
"Easily! And im here for it!"
Phil Mickelson replied to Woodhead by taking a jibe at PGA Tour players, saying they wouldn't stand a chance against the LIV golfers.
"It sounds great, but we would dominate them so soundly and it would be over so quick that tv would have to fill an hour of dead time. That’s why it’s not happening at this time," said Mickelson.
Many Twitter users shared their opinions on the idea and Mickelson indulged in arguments with some of them. Here's a look at a few of the reactions:
"My two guys…I’m here to watch the show…."
"LIV has 6 of the top 100 players in the world. The PGA tour has the other 94."
Mickelson had a reason for this.
"The world needs this."
"Do you still play golf Phil?"
A bit insensitive from Phil.
"@McIlroyRory, @JustinThomas34, @TigerWoods, @JordanSpieth, @RickieFowler, @maxhoma23 I think these guys would have something to say about this."
Phil Mickelson didn't hold back.
"Man you so lame and insecure these days."
"It’s not dead time for the CW when they can just stick an old rerun of Gilmore Girls on."
Did anyone get the reference?
"There is no doubt that each side needs to get rid of their pettiness, this would be amazing for the world to see!"
"No doubt that golf would see an all time ratings record on television. I’ve been saying from the get go that LIV is actually a PGA project to create a rivalry. Lol"
Sounds like a deal.
Phil Mickelson still hopeful of more Major wins
2021 was the last year that Phil Mickelson made a successful attempt at winning the Majors when he emerged victorious at the PGA Championship that year.
Since then, a lot of things have happened and the biggest of them was Mickelson and others defecting from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf. However, the golf veteran still feels he can win more Majors.
"I'm in every major for the next three years," Mickelson told Sports Illustrated. "And I think I have a chance to win one or two more and create these accomplishments that haven't been done at this stage."
Mickelson didn't play in last year's Masters, skipping the PGA Championship despite being a defending champion at Southern Hills Country Club.
