“We are all kind of in the dark on it” - LIV Golfer Talor Gooch voices concerns over missing Major championships in 2024
Talor Gooch's career reached new heights during the 2023 season in LIV Golf. In the 13 regular season tournaments, he was victorious in three of them. After finishing second at the Jeddah Invitational, he also won the season-long individual championship.
Although his form in the breakaway series is no doubt at its peak, his chances of playing in the four Majors for the 2024 season seem minimal. The reason being his association with a league that is not recognized by the Official World Golf Rankings.
Multiple LIV golfers have asked for solutions to allow top players from the league to get invites to all four Majors. Recently, Talor Gooch joined their ranks as he raised concerns over getting a slot in the most prestigious golf tournaments.
The 31-year-old American might miss out on the 2024 season's Majors as he stands 214th on the Official World Golf Rankings. Touching on the issue, he was quoted as saying to Golf Magic:
"You know, being able to play in the Majors, it's the pinnacle of golf. And so of course if I don't get that chance, that's going to suck."
However, Talor Gooch hopes that the people associated with the Majors will find some way to get players together and give them a chance to represent their candidature in the most prestigious golf tournaments of the year.
"So hopefully people will get together in the golf world and figure out how do we make sure the best of the best are playing in the best tournaments year-in and year-out, which are the majors," Gooch said.
Gooch also added that all the players in the LIV Golf league are kept in the dark regarding their participation in the prestigious Major tournaments.
"Nobody has told us anything. So yeah, we are all kind of in the dark on it, so we'll see," Gooch said.
Sometime before joining LIV Golf, Talor Gooch jumped as high as 31 in the Official World Golf Rankings. However, he still has chances to earn points and improve his ranking if he plays on the tours which allows players from the breakaway series.
How much has Talor Gooch won in the LIV Golf league as an individual competitor?
The reigning individual champion has played in 20 regular season tournaments in the breakaway series over two seasons. He has finished 10 times inside the top 10 on the leaderboard, which includes three wins as well.
Talor Gooch is the most successful individual player in LIV Golf in terms of earnings. He has garnered a whopping sum of $20,632,012 competing in the Saudi-backed league.
Interestingly, $12 million of his total earnings have come from his three victories at Adelaide, Singapore, and Andalucia in 2023.
Apart from official earnings, Talor Gooch has also earned a bonus prize of $18 million for finishing on the top of the season-long Individual standings.
