"We didn't have a lot of big characters"- Tommy Fleetwood on PGA players 'making a deal' over missing LIV Golfers at the Ryder Cup

In his next outing on the professional golf circuit, England's Tommy Fleetwood will be competing at the 2024 BMW PGA Championship. This year's edition of the tournament will be played from September 19 to 22 at the Wentworth Golf Club in England.

Ahead of the tournament, Tommy Fleetwood was part of a press conference where he was asked if he could think of a European Ryder Cup team without Jon Rahm next year.

Fleetwood answered:

"Well, I think, you know, there can be a Ryder Cup team without any particular player in it. I think everyone is well aware, the Ryder Cup is much bigger than any individual player."

He added:

"But you know, I think if you look at the last Ryder Cup team, there was a big deal made about who we were missing in the last Ryder Cup in terms of not even -- playing is one side and presence in a team room is another and we didn't have a lot of big characters in the last one."

Tommy Fleetwood concluded by saying that the Ryder Cup is bigger than any golfer. When it comes to playing at the 2024 Ryder Cup, Jon Rahm is making all possible attempts. Recently, Rahm appealed against the fines to play on the DP World Tour in a bid to be considered for next year's Ryder Cup.

As for Fleetwood, the British golfer has had a strong season in 2024. This year, Fleetwood finished in the top 10 on the PGA Tour four times, and he also won the Dubai Invitational on the DP World Tour. Fleetwood's latest appearance at the Tour Championship saw him finish in 20th place.
