“We’re competing at the highest level” - Bryson DeChambeau overjoyed by LIV golfers at the PGA Championship 2023

LIV Golf’s Brooks Koepka won the PGA Championship 2023. The 33-year-old lifted the Wanamaker trophy at Oak Hill for his fifth major win. Following this, Bryson DeChambeau came out to laud him and other fellow LIV golfers for their performances at the major championship.

DeChambeau, who finished T4 at the second major of the year, was in high praise of LIV players. The golfer was understandably buoyed by his performance and his Saudi-backed series mates.

Lauding the LIV players, the 29-year-old American said that the results ‘validated everything they’d said from the beginning.’ The golfer said that the LIV players were “competing at the highest level” and winning, proving that they deserved equal respect as PGA Tour players. He went on to state that he hopes “people see the light in respect to LIV Golf.”

Speaking about LIV players’ performances at the PGA Championship, Bryson DeChambeau was quoted as saying by Sports Illustrated:

“It validates everything we’ve said from the beginning. We’re competing at the highest level. And we have the ability to win major championships… I really hope people can see the light now that we’re trying to provide golf something new and fresh. At the end of the day, both sides are going to have to come together at some point. It’s for the good of the game.”

DeChambeau was speaking after a final-round 70 saw him finish six shots back of Koepka. It is pertinent to note that the golfer had received a hostile welcome to the event from fans. The LIV player, along with his paired partner Brooks Koepka, received boos from PGA Tour fans at Oak Hill. However, the duo rose above the fans’ reaction and managed to put out solid rounds at the major.

Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau happy with LIV Golf's PGA Championship outing

Apart from Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau, British Open champion Cameron Smith, Mito Pereira and Patrick Reed had positive results at the PGA Championship. A total of five LIV players made it to the top 22 of the major championship. DeChambeau further lauded the same and said that he was looking forward to a more positive future.

Meanwhile, PGA Championship winner Koepka also came out to laud LIV players at the major. Speaking after the final round, the three-time event winner said that such results "definitely help LIV," while praising himself for the win.

He said:

"I definitely think it helps LIV, but I'm more interested in my own self right now, to be honest with you. Yeah, it's a huge thing for LIV, but at the same time, I'm out here competing as an individual at the PGA Championship. I'm just happy to take this home for the third time."

It is also noteworthy that Koepka and DeChambeau are one of the 11 LIV players currently qualified for the U.S. Open in June. It’s safe to say that the golfer will be eyeing a stronger result at the event.
