"We’re going to relieve him of most of his duties" - Jim Furyk opens up about replacing Keegan Bradley as vice-captain for Presidents Cup

Keegan Bradley finished the 2024 PGA Tour season with a victory at the BMW Championship and a 21st-place finish in the FedEx Cup standings. These performances undoubtedly influenced Jim Furyk's decision to select him as a Presidents Cup player.

Furyk had previously announced Bradley as one of his vice-captains. While not unheard of in golf, it is a bit unusual for those responsible for organizing and preparing the team to also participate as players.

For this reason, Furyk has decided to release Bradley from his role as vice-captain to allow him to focus solely on his role as a player at the Presidents Cup. Furyk explained his decision to Golf Channel:

"We’re going to pretty much relieve him of most of his duties or almost all of his duties as the assistant captain. It's not fair for him trying to prepare as a player and get ready and trying to sit in on me." [0:18 - 0:29]

He added:

"We do so much while the players are practicing, while they're on the golf course at times, and those discussions, it's just not fair, so he earned it and played his way on to this team and we're going to end up filling in that spot with another assistant captain." [0:30 - 0:46]

Jim Furyk has not yet announced who will replace Keegan Bradley as assistant captain of the U.S. team for the Presidents Cup.

Bradley was also recently announced as the captain of the U.S. team for the 2025 Ryder Cup. The American golfer has expressed interest in making the team as a player, although he said he would only do so if he qualified on points.

Bradley has only one previous Presidents Cup appearance, the 2013 edition. At Muirfield Village Golf Club, Bradley scored two and a half points in five matches.

Keegan Bradley's 2024 Season at a Glance

Keegan Bradley played in 22 events during the 2024 PGA Tour season, making 18 cuts. He finished in the top 10 just three times, but they included two runner-up finishes (Sony Open in Hawaii and Charles Schwab Challenge) and one victory (BMW Championship).

Bradley played in all four Majors this season. He tied for 22nd at the Masters, tied for 18th at the PGA Championship, tied for 32nd at the US Open, and missed the cut at the Open Championship.

Bradley was the final qualifier for the second FedEx Cup playoff tournament as he was ranked 50th, but he made the most of the opportunity by winning the event at 12-under. That moved him up 46 spots to fourth on the leaderboard.

A week later, Bradley finished T21 at the TOUR Championship. His presence in the top 30 of the FedEx Cup standings gives him access to all eight Signature Events in the 2025 season, in addition to three of the four Majors.
