“We’re open to who may want to play” – LIV official weighs in on TGL players’ eligibility to play in the Saudi series

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's new virtual golf series, TGL, is a genuine threat to LIV Golf. In the wake of the formation of the Saudi circuit, McIlroy and Woods came together with a brand-new series in collaboration with the PGA Tour. The virtual golf league is all set to start in January 2024 and will have 15 tournaments followed by a semi-final and final.

TGL has announced its full roster of 24 players and there is no hope for LIV golfers to be a part of this exciting golf league. However, LIV Golf is ready to welcome the TGL players to join their league. Recently, Gary Davidson, former COO of LIV Golf, opened up about the TGL players' eligibility to join the Saudi circuit.

Davidson said that LIV is not limited to where the players are coming from and even the TGL players can join the series if they want to.

"We’re open to who may want to play. We’re not limiting where our players come (from) to play. We obviously want them to commit to play in our 14-team events. Beyond that, we are very open to them playing in other tour events in other weeks, indeed on Monday night in TGL if they want to. It wouldn’t cause any issues from our side," he said (via USA Today Sports).
“Isn’t something that’s come up as being an issue as yet and I think that there would be room for that," Davidson added.

LIV Golf concluded its second season on Sunday, October 22, and will be retooled to invite more players for the next season.

TGL Roster

TGL is a six-team golf league with four players in each team. The 24-player roster has recently been announced which includes the top-ranked PGA Tour players, including Jon Rahm, Max Homa, Patrick Cantlay, and Justin Thomas. The teams will compete in head-to-head 18-hole Monday night tournaments starting with their first event in January 2024.

Patrick Cantlay believes it's a great opportunity for players and he is looking forward to competing in the series.

“The more I talked to the other players involved in TGL, the more I wanted to be a part of the competition. This is a great opportunity to move golf forward providing something for our core fans while also showcasing our sport in a new, tech-forward, prime time and more digestible format,” the American golfer said (via USA Today Sports).
