"We've tried to convince Tiger Woods to play"- Collin Morikawa on playing Call of Duty with Min Woo Lee, Kurt Kitayama and other PGA Tour stars
Collin Morikawa was a guest on the latest episode of Golf.com's YouTube show "The Scoop". Morikawa discussed various aspects of his personal life, including his love of playing Call of Duty.
As Collin Morikawa told the show's host, Claire Rogers, his regular partners for playing Call of Duty are Min Woo Lee and Kurt Kitayama. He also said that they tried to convince Tiger Woods to play with them.
Collin Morikawa said:
"I do play with Min Woo [Lee] and Kurt [Kitayama] a lot when we're home. We've tried to convince Tiger [Woods] to play, but he doesn't like to play what we play...That would be a dream, that'd be an absolute dream." [5:01-5:20]
Morikawa also talked about meeting Tiger Woods. This was part of his words:
"It was 2019, in the Zozo Championship locker room. We have the same agent and he had just introduced me for like 3 seconds, and I didn't know what to say, I was just like, 'hi', and he's like, 'oh yeah, I know who you are', and I'm like, 'cool, yeah, okay, thanks.'" [5:32-5:48]
Morikawa also shared interesting details about his golf career, including his early days in the sport, his experiences winning the PGA Championship and Open Championship, and his great performance in his Ryder Cup debut teaming up with Dustin Johnson.
A look at Collin Morikawa's Olympic history
The Paris 2024 Olympics will be the second Olympics of Collin Morikawa's career, as he represented the United States at Tokyo 2021. On the East Course of Kasumigaseki Country Club, Morikawa had a great performance as he came close to a podium finish.
Morikawa began his performance at Tokyo 2021 with a 69 in the first round to finish T20. He remained in a similar position after the second round with a score of 70.
During the so-called Moving Day, Morikawa improved his position with a score of 67. But it was during the fourth round that he played his best golf.
Morikawa shot a 63 in the final round of the Olympic Golf Tournament in Tokyo to finish in a three-way tie for third place, three shots behind champion Xander Schauffele.
The bronze medal was decided by a playoff in which Morikawa lost to CT Pan in three holes.
Morikawa has a long history of representing the United States in various golf events at all levels. As an amateur, he played in the 2017 and 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup and the 2017 Walker Cup, winning all three events. He also played in the 2018 Eisenhower Trophy.
As a professional, he played in the 2021 and 2023 Ryder Cups, winning the former. He also played in and won the 2022 Presidents Cup.
