What happened to Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith at LIV Golf Mayakoba?
Last year's LIV Golf champion, Dustin Johnson, finished in a three-way tie alongside Charl Schwartzel and James Piot at the 2023 LIV Golf Mayakoba, while Australian golfer Cameron Smith settled for fifth position alongside Brendan Steele.
Johnson had a great start to the tournament in Mayakoba. He finished at 68. However, his performance in the next two rounds was not enough to clinch the trophy this year. He settled at a score of 71 in the second round and with a final round of 78, Dustin Johnson ended the day with a score of 217.
Dustin Johnson made five birdies in the opening round along with two bogeys. He started the second day with a bogey on the third hole and then four consecutive birdies on the next few holes. He sank a double bogey on the 16th hole, and with two more bogeys and a birdie on the 14th hole, the 4 Aces caption wiped out at 71.
On the final day, he made two consecutive bogeys on the first two holes and then another on the third hole. He sank six bogeys and only two birdies in the conclusion round and finished with a score of 78.
Cameron Smith, on the other hand, finished in fifth position. Opening the season with a bogey on the third hole, Smith made six bogeys in the inaugural round along with four bogeys.
He was unlucky in the second round of the tournament as he started with a bogey on the first hole. The second round resulted in the depletion of his ranking as he sank three bogeys. However, he also made three birdies to equalize it.
The Aussies finished with a score of 71 on Saturday, only to start the Sunday round with two consecutive birdies on the fifth and sixth holes. He then hit a bogey on the seventh hole and then with another three birdies, Cameron Smith ended up at score-under 6 to finish at T5.
How much did Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith win at the 2023 LIV Golf Mayakoba?
Although Cameron Smith and Distim Johnson could not clinch the trophy on Sunday, February 26, they took a whopping amount in prize money.
Cameron Smith, who bagged the fifth position, received a check for $887,500 in prize money. Dustin Johnson took home $144,000 from the purse of $20 million.
Charles Howell III won the 2023 LIV Golf League and won $4 million in prize money from the opening tournament of the LIV Golf.
Peter Uihlein secured the second position and earned $2.125 million in prize money, followed by Branden Grace and Paul Casey.
Pat Perez finished in a four-way tie alongside Carlos Ortiz, Sebastian Munoz, and Matthew Wolff to finish in seventh position and bagged $610,000 in prize money.
