"He’s arguably the best player in the world" - Jordan Spieth talks about Scottie Scheffler
Scottie Scheffler's performance at the Players Championship received a lot of praise from golfers. His phenomenal win by five strokes helped him top the Official World Golf Rankings again.
Jordan Spieth, who finished at T19, led out the praise for the World No.1 golfer. Speaking about Scottie Scheffler's performance at The Players Championship, Spieth said:
“I play against him a lot at home and consistently he’s shooting really low rounds. When I feel like I get the better of him it’s a boost of confidence right now, because he’s arguably the best player in the world right now. His golf is pretty incredible."
Spieth went on to say:
"He lost in a couple of playoffs, his top 10s are off the charts. He’s just playing that good. He’s extremely grounded. He’s got really good parents, a great family structure. Randy Smith’s been around for a long time, his coach, and he’s been with him forever. So I don’t see it changing. He’s in a good position to be able to continue to do this for a while.”
Scheffler did not have an amazing start to the tournament. With five birdies and two bogeys, he finished at 4 par 68 in the opening round. The second round was heavily affected by bad weather. He carded a 3-par 69, but it was not enough to top the leaderboard.
Scottie Scheffler's performance in the last two rounds helped him to win the 49th edition of the Players Championship. The 2022 Masters winner started on Saturday (March 11) with a birdie on the first hole and soon an eagle on the second. He made five birdies and a bogey to end the day at under 7 and topped the leaderboard after the third board.
Scottie Scheffler maintained the lead in the last round in which he made five consecutive birdies to finish at a scoring deficit of 17.
It is pertinent to note that Jon Rahm withdrew from the tournament ahead of the second round due to illness, while Rory McIlroy missed the cut.
