Preparations for the 2025 Ryder Cup are underway as the golf world gets ready for the binneal tournament that will be held at Bethpage Black in New York. With the Cup being hosted on team USA's home ground this year, the pressure is on for them to deliver a winning performance.
The captaincy for the 2025 USA Team has been a topic of much debate amongst fans, experts and golfers with Tiger Woods being one of the most popular choices for the same. The PGA of America is now all set to announce the captain of the US Team in New York City at 12 noon ET from NASDAQ (via @NUCLRGolf on X).
The announcement is a highly anticipated one, and according to SkySports, Tiger Woods has been in talks with Seth Waugh, the CEO of PGA of America about the potential role. Speaking about it after the Masters earlier this year, Woods said:
"We're still talking about it. It's something that Seth [Waugh, chief executive of the PGA of America] and I are going to sit back and talk about it after this event [The Masters]."
Team Europe has already announced their captain for the 2025 edition will once again be Luke Donald. The European team captured a commanding victory at the 2023 Ryder Cup that was held in Rome, and will look to defend their title next year.
2023 Ryder Cup recap: Team Europe's dominating victory over Team USA
The 2023 Ryder Cup was held at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome where team Europe grabbed a 16.5 to 11.5 victory over team USA.
Team Europe took the lead during the opening round of the event, sweeping the morning foursomes with a score of 4-0. By the end of the first day, team Europe was leading the tournament 6.5-1.5.
On day 2, team Europe sealed their lead over the US team, with Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg securing an impressive victory over Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka. The final day of the tournament saw all of the singles matches take place, with Jon Rahm going up against Scottie Scheffler and Ludvig Aberg battling it out against Brooks Koepka.
Team Europe needed only 4 points to secure victory at the Ryder Cup. Both the teams scored 6 points each, and Europe took their win over USA 16.5-11.5.
