Where will the 2024 Tour Championship be held? All about the venue as well
The 2024 season of the PGA Tour will reach its finale at the upcoming Tour Championship, scheduled from August 29 to September 1. As per tradition, the coveted event will take place at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
The iconic golf course has been the venue for the Tour Championship since 2005. Established in 1904, East Lake is the oldest golf club in the city. It was also the home ground of legendary golfer Bobby Jones. Built on an old amusement park, the course has undergone several renovations in the past century. Recently, architect Andrew Green led a complete renovation of the course in 2023.
The par score for East Lake is 70 and it features 18 holes. It has a distinctive parkland layout and stretches across 7,374 yards. The sprawling golf course is known for its gentle contours and comforting setting. It is considered to be one of the easier courses to play on the PGA Tour. However, it can still be a tricky space to navigate with the pressure of a season finale.
The area has bunkers scattered around it. Trees surround the course, slimming down in the landing regions. Moreover, the thick Bermuda grass on the course makes it imperative for the players to hit precise shots. The par 15th at East Lake was the first ever island green designed in the USA and is a hard one to nail.
Since the championship tees are placed behind the lake, golfers have to hit a 200-yard shot before the ball can even touch dry land. The hitting area is also a very narrow green, with winds pushing the ball towards the water. All these factors combined make this hole the most challenging one on East Lake.
The top 30 golfers from the BMW Championship will take the field at East Lake for the 2024 Tour Championship. Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland will return as defending champion.
