Paul Waring had a bogey-free round with one eagle and nine birdies for an 11-under 61. The score broke the course record of 62 set by Sami Valimaki in 2023 and equaled by Tommy Fleetwood on Thursday.
The score is also the lowest of Waring's DP World Tour career. Following his performance, the new Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship leader had this to say to the Tour's news service:
"Obviously feel great, swinging it great. Putter is behaving... I’ve got a nice lead at the moment but even before I tee off tomorrow, someone might have caught me. So if I’m going to be involved on Sunday afternoon I’ve still got to keep going the way I am."
Paul Waring has only one win (2018 Nordea Masters) in 331 starts on the DP World Tour. He is currently ranked 48th in the Race to Dubai, with his best result to date being a 22nd place finish in 2019.
