Following the round, the Italian reflected on his performance and told the media:
"I have to be honest, one of the best rounds I've ever played. Considering the conditions at the beginning especially. It rained a lot, and the course is playing soft but also long. There's not too many birdies out there but I made the most out of all I could, really, and it was a fantastic round."
PGA Tour stars Billy Horschel and Rory McIlroy carded rounds of 65 and 66, respectively, in the third round of the BMW PGA Championship. The two moved up to second place on 15 under.
The leader after the previous two rounds, Matthew Baldwin, dropped three places on the leaderboard after carding a final round 71. Thriston Lawrence moved up eight places to tie for fifth, while Aaron Rai moved up six places to tie for seventh.
