Who is leading the 2024 Irish Open after Round 1? Day 1 leaderboard explored

The first round of the 2024 Irish Open was played on Thursday, September 12th at Royal County Down Golf Club in Newcastle, Northern Ireland. The difficult course conditions were evident throughout the round, as evidenced by the fact that only 32 players broke par.

Todd Clements leads the Irish Open at -5. A total of 18 players are three shots or less behind him, including local hero Rory McIlroy.

Todd Clements dramatically took the lead at the 2024 Irish Open with an eagle on the 18th hole to close out his first round. His performance for the day also included five birdies and two bogeys.

Top-ranked golfer in the field and local idol Rory McIlroy also put in a spectacular performance on home soil. McIlroy was tied for 30th through 15th with three birdies and three bogeys (even par) when he birdied his last three holes to finish at 3-under and move up to T4.

The other super fan favorite at the Irish Open, Shane Lowry, did not have a very lucky round, carding two birdies and three bogeys (1-over). Lowry finished the first round in a tie for 51st place with 14 other players.

The second round of the Irish Open will start on Friday at 7:30 a.m. local time (2:30 a.m. EDT). The morning wave will finish at 9:30 am (4:30 am ET) and the afternoon wave will start at 12:30 pm (7:30 am EDT). The final group will tee off at 2:30 p.m. (9:30 a.m. EDT).
