Who is leading the 2024 John Deere Classic after Day 1? Leaderboard explored
The first round of the 2024 John Deere Classic concluded on Thursday, July 4, at TPC Deere Run in Illinois. The headline of the day was the record round carded by PGA Tour rookie Hayden Springer.
Springer shot a 12-under 59 to lead the 2024 John Deere Classic and, in the process, tie the course record. However, his lead after 18 holes is not huge, as Sami Valimaki scored a 10-under 61 to chase Springer by just two strokes.

Hayden Springer's performance during the first round of the John Deere Classic included two eagles and eight birdies, with no bogeys. Springer was particularly strong on the front nine, as he shot an 8-under 27.
With this performance, Springer matched the course record at TPC Deere Run, home of the John Deere Classic since 2000. The record was set by Paul Goydos in 2010. It is also his career-low score and the 14th PGA Tour score under 60 (second of the 2024 season).
Defending champion Sepp Straka finished the first round with a score of 5 under. He sits T27, seven strokes behind the leader.
Other high-profile golfers finished outside the top 50. Two-time John Deere Classic winner Jordan Spieth finished T90 with a score of 2 under, the same score and placement on the leaderboard as Jason Day.
