Jon Rahm's performance in the second round of LIV Golf Chicago included six birdies and no bogeys. His score allowed him to climb 10 places to the top of the leaderboard.
Day one leader Brooks Koepka lost the four-shot lead he had at the start of the round after carding just three birdies and six bogeys.
Sergio Garcia also moved up the leaderboard thanks to a five-under-par second round. Adrian Meronk and Tyrrell Hatton shared Garcia's score, with the Pole moving up 17 places to T4 and the Englishman 26 places to T12. Hatton had an ace on the 6th hole.
Garcia, Hatton, and Koepka are three of the four contenders for third place, which will be decided in the final round. Only Cameron Smith seems to be out of contention.
The same goes for the title race between Rahm and Niemann, who are only three shots apart.
The X (formerly Twitter) account LIV Golf Communications reported that the second round of LIV Golf Chicago had an attendance of 15,000 spectators, a new record for the league.
