Scottie Scheffler bogeyed his first hole, but just as he did in the first round of the Tour Championship, he did not bogey any of the remaining 17 holes on Saturday. He made six birdies to finish 5-under for the round.

Shane Lowry and Viktor Hovland had the best third round score at the 2024 Tour Championship (6-under). The Irishman moved up six places to tie for 8th, while the Norwegian climbed 12 places to tie for 13th.

Sahith Theegala has shown great consistency in the final tournament of the season. Theegala has carded rounds of 67, 66 and 66 to finish the third round in third place, ahead of none other than Xander Schauffele.

Theegala's performance during the third round was remarkable. He took two penalty strokes on the third hole when he felt he had touched the sand while backswinging into a bunker.

The rule states that a player playing in the bunker cannot touch the sand while executing his backswing. The penalty is two strokes, the same penalty Theegala received after voluntarily placing himself under the lights.

This display of sportsmanship resulted in a double bogey on the hole. Theegala recovered in fine form and carded seven birdies on the back nine, including five in a row, to sign for 5-under for the round.

The biggest drop of the day was reported by Tony Finau, who dropped 11 places to T19. Finau finished the third round of the Tour Championship in 3-over thanks to a double bogey, two bogeys and a birdie.
