Who won the Chevron Championship? Exploring final leaderboard for women's major tournament
The Chevron Championship marks the first major tournament in women's golf, suggesting it's the first time in the season that the biggest stars are all playing in the same field for something more than just a trophy. It delivered on that front, as it was an excellent tournament. Here's who won and how everyone placed over the weekend after some poor weather impacted play.
Final leaderboard for Chevron Championship
After some delays, the final round of the Chevron Championship eventually came to an end. Here's how it turned out:
- Win: Nelly Korda, -13
- 2: Maja Stark, -11
- T3: Lauren Coughlin, -10
- T3: Brooke Henderson, -10
- 5: Hae Ran Ryu, -9
- 6: Carlota Ciganda, -8
- 7: Esther Henseleit, -7
- 8: Jin Hee Im, -6
- T9: A Lim Kim, -5
- T9: Yealimi Noh, -5
- T9: Minami Katsu, -5
- 12: Atthaya Thitikul, -4
- T13: Jasmine Koo, -3
- T13: Xiyu Lin, -3
- T13: Weiwei Zhang, -3
- T13: Nasa Hataoka, -3
It has been Nelly Korda's world and the rest of golf was tasked with dethroning her. She'd won four consecutive starts on tour coming into this season's first Major. The last time anyone had done that entering a Major was Annika Sorenstam, who won the Chevron by eight strokes.
The margin of victory was not nearly that high, but Norda did complete the small comeback in round four (her delayed end of round three put her one stroke back of the lead) to win her fifth straight start and second career Major tournament. Despite things tightening up towards the end of the tournament, Nelly Korda kept her cool and prevailed once more.
Lauren Coughlin gave a valiant effort, as she led after round one and ended up falling just short of Korda. She shot 10 under par and put in a great showing.
It wasn't a victory for everyone but that singular winner, but several LPGA Tour stars, including Atthaya Thitikul, Anna Nordqvist and Jasmine Koo, can be happy with their performance.
However, there's always two sides to a coin and a lot of golfers suffered as well. Several golfers missed the cut, including some surprising names like Lexi Thompson, Hannah Green, Alison Lee, Megan Khang, Hyo-Joo Kim, Jin Young Ko, and Celine Boutier.
