"Why is he doing that" - Scottie Scheffler says his caddie ran to check numbers at FedEx St Jude Championship, then got tired and didn't do it again

Scottie Scheffler's caddie Ted Scott was highly active on the golf course during the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship. The American golfer is a part of the ongoing PGA Tour event and, after the second round, is in fourth place.

During Friday's second round, Scott's diligence was evident as he ran across the golf course to ensure the numbers on the green were correct. He did this twice, on the second and ninth tee holes. However, he likely grew tired and did not repeat the effort on other holes.

Scottie Scheffler shared this story during his post-round press conference on Friday, saying (via ASAP Sports):

"Honestly, as he was running up to the 9th green, I was thinking to myself, why is he doing that. I'm in the rough; I'm just trying to make sure I get it up there on the green. He wanted to make sure the number was correct on the green. It was. It was a good number."
"He didn't trust the book, but by the time I thought about it, he was already up there on the green measuring the distance. He did that twice today; he did it on 2 and he did it on 9 and I guess he got tired because he didn't do it the rest of the day," he added.

Following the second round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Hideki Matsuyama and Denny McCarthy held the lead at 11-under par, with Sam Burns in solo third place.

Justin Rose jumped nine spots up after the second round to finish in a tie for fifth place with Nick Dunlap. Viktor Hovland settled in T7 with Robert MacIntyre and Billy Horschel.

A look into Scottie Scheffler's performance at the FedEx St Jude Championship 2024

Scottie Scheffler began his round at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship with a birdie on the first hole. He went on to card three more birdies from the fourth to the sixth holes, totaling four birdies on the front nine. On the back nine, he recorded one birdie and one bogey, finishing with a 4-under 66.

On Friday, Scheffler played a bogey-free round, making five birdies for a score of 5-under 65. During the post-round press conference, Scheffler also spoke about his performance, saying (via ASAP Sports):

"Yeah, today it's just nice to have a clean card. No bogeys, did a good job of having some nice up-and-downs to kind of keep the momentum and the round going. I holed a nice putt for par early in the round on 5 and then I had a couple nice chips after that getting it close to the hole making what could have been a stressful par into a pretty stress-free par with some nice pitches. Overall it was a pretty good day."

The 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship is a four-day event, with the third round scheduled for Saturday, August 17, followed by the final round on Sunday, August 18.
