“Wild Fire” – Nelly Korda reflects on her first ace after Charlie Woods’ big moment at the PNC Championship
Nelly Korda recalled her first time making a hole-in-one after Charlie Woods and Paddy Harrington recorded their first aces at the PNC Championship.
At the recently concluded unofficial PGA Tour Champions event, 15-year-old Charlie made his first hole-in-one on the fourth hole of the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club. Soon after, Paddy Harrington, son of two-time Open Championship winner Padraig Harrington, also made an ace in his game.
During the press conference of the PNC Championship on Sunday, December 22, Nelly Korda was asked by a reporter about her first ace. Replying to the reporter, the women's World No. 1 golfer revealed that she made it in Tampa when she was around 12. Korda said (via ASAP Sports):
"It was actually in Tampa, Wild Fire. I made it in a practice round before in FCWT and there was a cart girl coming around, and the first thing he did is (laughter) I'm taking a shot to celebrate (laughter). I didn't take it (laughter) I was like 12."
The 2024 PNC Championship was successfully concluded on Sunday, December 22, with Team Langer registering a thrilling win. At 28-under, Bernhard Langer and his son Jason were tied for the lead with Tiger Woods and Charlie after two rounds. In the playoff, Team Langer shot an eagle while Team Woods carded a birdie, which led to the former team clinching the win.
How did Nelly Korda and Petr Korda play at the 2024 PNC Championship?
Nelly Korda competed in the tournament with her father Petr Korda, and they had a decent outing. Team Korda started the campaign with three back-to-back birdies on the first three holes, followed by two more birdies on the fifth and sixth holes and a birdie on the eighth.
Team Korda played a bogey-free opening round and shot an eagle and a birdie on the back nine for a round of 9-under 63. They improved in the second round, adding six birdies on the front nine and five on the back nine for a round of 11-under 61. After two rounds, Team Korda tied for eighth place at 20-under.
During the press conference on Sunday, Korda reflected on her experience of playing with her father at the event and said (via ASAP Sports):
"Today was a lot of fun. Saw him make putts. But this is a great tournament to end the year on, especially the two of us and with the company 245 we have 569 this I haven't playing, this is my second -- our second time playing with Lee Trevino and I always have so much fun with him. Oh, my gosh, the stories, just the humour, everything, he is a blast to play with."
Meanwhile, Nelly Korda was impressive on the LPGA Tour this season, having recorded seven phenomenal victories.
