"Winning the U.S. Open can take a toll on you"- Bryson DeChambeau on getting lazy with prepping for tournaments

Bryson DeChambeau earned one of the biggest wins of his career earlier this year at the US Open. It may have inadvertently impacted his play in future events. He hasn't achieved that level of success since, and while he doesn't think his win made him play worse, he is willing to admit that he stopped preparing as well as he should have.

Following the final LIV Golf event of the season, DeChambeau said at a press conference (via ASAP Sports):

"Maybe taking a couple things for granted here and there, not working on putting the way I probably should have, chipping and wedging. When I was - when I played really well the end of last year, I was certainly focused a lot more on my game and didn't have as many other things going on."

He added:

"Now obviously winning the U.S. Open can take a toll on you, but for the most part, it's been a lot of just not giving myself enough prep time."

The two-time Major champion stated that he needs to focus more on that next year because he wants to give himself better chances. DeChambeau said that he played "too well" this year to not give himself more chances.

The American golfer continued:

"Every single one of us is super hard workers. They've all rallied behind me when it's gotten tough for me, when I've had to do some things here and there, like no, go focus on your game, go do this, go do that. It's awesome to have that support group when a lot is going on."

After winning the US Open in a dramatic final round over Rory McIlroy, the golfer missed the cut at the Open Championship and finished in the following places at LIV events:

  • T3 at LIV Golf Nashville
  • 9 at Andalucia
  • T11 at UK
  • T15 at Greenbrier
  • T6 at Chicago

It was far from a bad spell, but it did not yield any victories.

Bryson DeChambeau reflects on team win at LIV Golf Chicago

While Bryson DeChambeau didn't earn a win at LIV Golf Chicago, his team, the Crushers GC, was able to earn the win in the team standings. This was thanks to good performances from the four members.

Dechambeau said (via ASAP Sports):

"I played pretty solid. I didn't make a bogey. Charles played pretty solid. Baan was solid. We all played like Crushers play. We've been steady all year. We didn't have Charles for a little while and it was nice to have him back, and the mojo is back. Chucky always gives us the mojo."

Bryson DeChambeau ended by saying that it was "fun" to be able to eke out a close win to get some momentum going into the final team competition, but their job is not yet done even after a good win.
