Wyndham Clark accuses media of ‘trying to divide’ the ‘closer than the Europeans' US Team
Keegan Bradley, who won the Presidents Cup for the US on Sunday, called the American Team Room the “greatest team room” he’s ever been a part of. Wyndham Clark replicated the same sentiment and claimed that they were a “very close team” this weekend.
Speaking after the US side’s 18 1/2 to 11 1/2 victory over the International side at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Clark stated that the American side has been close for years. He further claimed that the side was 'closer' than the Europeans during the 2023 Ryder Cup despite reports claiming otherwise. The Americans accused the media of ‘trying to divide’ the side apart.
The PGA Tour star dubbed his team room ‘amazing’ and stated that the players had “many laughs” and “fond memories” from international team events.
Speaking about the US side’s team effort at the 2024 Presidents Cup, Wyndham Clark said, as quoted by ASAP Sports:
“We take all the energy we have to try to beat each other into now let's put it together and channel it and try to beat someone else, which is really fun. It's really refreshing for golf, too. It's so individual, and then now you're turning for each other, you're rooting for each other, you're helping each other…
We are a very close team. Contrary to what people thought last year at the Ryder Cup, we were in my opinion closer than the Europeans. The media tries to divide us apart, and this year we were just as close if not closer. We had so much camaraderie and positive energy between us. When things weren't going well, we still were all picking each other up. It was an amazing team room. So many laughs, so many fond memories.”
It is pertinent to note that Wyndham Clark's comments directly addressed the 2023 Ryder Cup US team that faced some heat after reports emerged of the side having internal disputes.
According to the media, the Zach Johnson-led team had issues in the team room, including the ‘hat gate’ where Patrick Cantlay avoided wearing the team cap due to him not being paid to play. However, the reports were quickly denied by the American camp.
Wyndham Clark on the ‘little dog’ inside the US Team
Wyndham Clark seemed impressed with his teammates in Montreal this week. Following the win, the 2023 US Open winner addressed the common ‘thread’ throughout everybody in the American team. He said that all players in the Furyk-led team had a ‘little bit of dog’ in them.
He went on to call his team, including him, the “best players in the world.”
Wyndham Clark said:
“I think we all just have a little bit of dog in us is really what I'd say. I feel like we're the best players in the world for a reason, and I think you get us all together, and I just think we have a little extra something that maybe other people don't have. I think it's the little dog in us.”
For the unversed, the US Team came into the 2024 Presidents Cup as favorites. They opened the biennial in Quebec with a stellar 5-0 lead on Day 1. However, the side was taken by surprise as Mike Wier’s International side retaliated and settled the scores at 5-5. After another two days of grind, the Americans came out on top as they finished with 18 1/2 to 11 1/2 on the final day.
This was the US team’s 13th win in the Presidents Cup’s 15 edition history. The next edition of the international competition will be held in 2026 at the Medinah Golf Club near Chicago.
