Xander Schauffele reveals "square club face" secret that helps him in every event

Xander Schauffele this week shared an insight into the secrets of his impressive game this season. The American opened up about his game in an interview with Chris Como and discussed his shots and how he improved his game.

In the video shared by Como, Schauffele says he was having a "horrendous" hitting game prior to the Masters. However, after his father gave him some parenting advice on his club positioning, he made some improvements to his game, and the results were pretty evident. The world No. 2 has won two major events this season following the Masters.

Putting a glove on the ground and holding his club next to it, Schauffele said,

"This glove right here is another super simple thing. I told you earlier before the Masters, I was hitting it horrendous, you know, I wasnt really sweating it, but I couldn't really figure it out. I was just hitting everything left. Ogre [his was yelling at me because I was, you know, being stubborn and whatnot. And finally, he just, you know, told me to shut up.
"He put this glove box down, and he says 'put your face right behind it.' And so I, you know, grabbed this simple right edge right here, put my iron right behind it, got the face squared, and he says, 'Now grab the club.' He said, 'Look at the club.' And I was like, 'Holy smokes, this looks like, you know, a butter knife; it just looks awful' , you know what I mean?' So, during the whole year at the Masters, I played with what felt like a face that was wide open."

Scahuffele added he "trusted" that method and looked for a "straight edge," such as a tee-box, throughout the year to maintain his new method of lining up his club, following this conversation.

Xander Schauffele won his maiden major at the PGA Championship and then went on to win The Open Championship in 2024. He has been phenomenal this season.

This week, the American golfer teed it up at the Zozo Championship in Japan. This is his first outing since playing at the Presidents Cup. He shot rounds of 73 and 65 at the tournament and is tied for 42nd after two rounds. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, October 27.
