Xander Schauffele’s dad takes on new role at Paris Olympics, ditches on-field duty as his son looks to defend gold medal
With the golf event at the 2024 Paris Olympics approaching, Xander Schauffele's father had a change in role this year. Last time, when Schauffele played in the Olympics in Tokyo, his father Stefan Schauffele served as his golf instructor. But this year, Xander Schauffele's father decided to cheer for his son from the audience and be a supporter.
In 2020, Stefan Schauffele guided his son excellently at the Olympics and helped him get the gold for the USA. Xander Schauffele won the Olympics with a one-stroke lead. His scores were 68, 63, 68, and 67 over the week.
On Tuesday, Xander Schauffele expressed gratitude towards his father for all the guidance that he provided, which helped him come this far.
“For me to be a consistent top-10 player in the world with my dad as a coach is a huge credit to my dad for what he built and what he made me,” Schauffele said ( via PGA Tour).
This year, Chris Como is Xander Schauffele's golf instructor in Paris. In the interview, the 2024 PGA Championship winner explained why he chose Como for the role.
“Chris has got a really good background in biomechanics and has been coaching for a very long time … He's a really good communicator, and my dad has kind of known him for a bit, too. So once we linked up and had conversation, it was a pretty smooth go, and luckily the changes were implemented quickly and obviously have beared some good fruit,” Xander Schauffele said.
The Paris Olympics for golf begins on August 1, and the men's circuit will be teeing up this Thursday.
