Xander Schauffele shares heartfelt message after 'incredible' Open Championship victory

Xander Schauffele won The 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club with a score of 9-under. It was the second major title of his career, both of which have come during the current season.

Following his victory, Schauffele took to his social media profiles to share a message of thanks to the organizers, his family, his team, and his sponsors. Here is the text he posted:

"What an incredible experience. A special victory since I had my family here with me. A big thank you to @TheOpen, my team, and my sponsors! I couldn’t have done it without you!"

Entering the 2024 season, Xander Schauffele was among the top-ranked players in the world yet to win a major championship. He broke into the major champions' circle when he won the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla.

Two months later, Schauffele became a double major champion by winning The 2024 Open Championship. He is just the 89th player in history to win more than one major title in his career.

Xander Schauffele will now compete at the Paris Olympics, where he will be in the field as the defending champion after winning the gold medal at Tokyo 2021.

A look at Xander Schauffele's performance at The 2024 Open Championship

Xander Schauffele did not lead the leaderboard in any of the first three rounds of The 2024 Open Championship, although he always kept pace with the leaders. His performance improved as the event progressed.

The American carded a first-round 69 thanks to three birdies and one bogey. In the second round, he made the most of the bad weather that affected Royal Troon, carding two birdies and three bogeys for a 72.

The so-called "Moving Day" was also affected by the bad weather, especially in the afternoon when the top players on the leaderboard were playing.

Once again, Schauffele overcame the difficulties to finish the day with four birdies and two bogeys for a 69. With this performance, Schauffele entered the final round in a tie for second place, just one stroke behind temporary leader Billy Horschel.

The American saved his best golf for last, carding a bogey-free fourth round of six birdies for a 65. Four of his birdies came on the back nine, considered among the toughest nines in world golf.

He finished at 9-under, two shots ahead of Billy Horschel and Justin Rose. The Englishman matched his career-best finish at The Open, while Horschel posted his best finish ever.

Schauffele has a nine-year career in professional golf with 12 wins, including nine on the PGA Tour. He was named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year for the 2016-2017 season, during which he won twice, including the Tour Championship.
