"You grow from watching Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton"- Caleb Surratt inspired by fellow LIV Golf teammates
At the start of 2024, Caleb Surratt followed in the footsteps of Eugenio Chacarra and David Puig by going straight from college to LIV Golf. As the season draws to a close, Surratt has repeatedly stressed how much he has learned during this time.
The University of Tennessee alumnus and former world number 10 amateur recently highlighted how playing alongside his Legion XIII teammates, particularly Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, has been beneficial to his career.
"You learn and you grow from watching Jon and Tyrrell play so well," Caleb Surratt said (via Legion XIII on X).
A few weeks earlier, Surratt had also commented on his experience playing on LIV Golf. This was part of what he said (via LIV Golf):
"I'm learning a lot, I'm learning way more than I expected, so, I'm happy to be here."
Caleb Surratt joined LIV Golf in January 2024 to be a part of the Legion XIII team captained by Jon Rahm. To do so, Surratt interrupted his studies at the University of Tennessee and ended his successful amateur career at the age of 19.
Before turning professional, Surratt won the 2021 Western Junior, the 2021 Boy's Junior PGA Championship, and the 2023 SEC Championship, among others. He was ranked 10th in the world amateur rankings.
Caleb Surratt's professional career at a glance
Caleb Surratt has played just 14 events as a professional, 12 on LIV Golf and two on the Asian Tour's International Series. He has had excellent results in the latter two, finishing in the top 5 in both.
Surratt competed in the International Series Morocco on the Asian Tour in July. He finished in a tie for 3rd place with LIV Golf colleague Eugenio Chacarra, both with a score of 280.
Four weeks later, Surratt played in the International Series England where he finished second with a score of 271. The winner of the event was also a LIV Golf player, Peter Uihlein.
Surratt has three top-15 finishes on the LIV Golf circuit, with a 12th-place finish at the Las Vegas event as his best result. His best round on the circuit so far was the first round of the Houston event, where he carded a seven-under-par.
These results leave him in 39th place on the individual leaderboard with 17.05 points. This places him in the so-called "Open Zone" of the standings, with his spot in the team subject to his team's decision for next season.
Open Zone players can be re-signed, traded or even released by their teams for next season. In this case, they can be recruited by another team.
As part of the Legion XIII team, Surratt has won four events in the 2024 season. The team also has another podium finish, 3rd place at the LIV Golf Greenbrier.
